Singapore Electricity Roundtable 2010

Energy Market Company (EMC) will host the sixth Singapore Electricity Roundtable 2010 on 28 and 29 October at Suntec City Convention Centre.  The event will again be one of the highlights of Singapore’s International Energy Week (SIEW), organized by the Energy Market Authority (EMA) and the Energy Studies Institute (ESI). 

EMC is gathering leading practitioners and thinkers in the electricity industry for this event, which is dedicated to connecting influencers, decision makers, potential investors and experts in the electricity and related industries. Senior executives and decision makers from the energy, electricity and related industries in Singapore and across the region look forward to this valuable opportunity to meet one another and discuss the challenges and issues of importance to the electricity industry in Asia Pacific and globally.


Topics this year will range from challenges of developing regional electricity markets and insight into the impact of pricing CO2 into electricity trading to smart metering and electricity derivatives markets plus updates on Thailand, China and the NEMS. Our much-anticipated panel discussion will cover Singapore’s Economic Strategies Committee’s (ESC) recommendations and implications for the power industry.

Our confirmed distinguished speakers:

  • Keynote speaker:  Professor Frank A. Wolak, Holbrook Working Professor of Commodity Price Studies in the Department of Economics and Director of the Program on Energy and Sustainable Development, Stanford University, covering challenges in developing regional electricity markets.
  • Paul Sell, Director, Energy Market Consulting Associates, will provide perspectives on the deployment of smart metering in the UK, Australia and New Zealand and on how benefits are being realized.
  • Dr Pallapa Ruangrong, Commissioner, Energy Regulatory Commission Thailand, will give an update on the developments in the electricity sector of Thailand.
  • Mark Landis, Managing Director, MRL Management Services, will cover the Australian derivatives markets and lessons learned.

Speakers on the impact of pricing CO2 into electricity trading and on the latest developments in the electricity sector in China will be confirmed soon.

EMC’s renowned industry panel discussion this year will focus on Singapore’s Economic Strategies Committee’s (ESC) recommendations and the implications for the power sector. Our distinguished industry panellists will be:

  • John Ng, Chief Executive Officer of PowerSeraya Ltd
  • Brendan Wauters, President and CEO of Senoko Energy Ltd
  • Ng Meng Poh, Executive Vice President, Head, Singapore Utilities Sembcorp Industries Ltd

Two workshops on Day 2 conducted by our in-house experts will provide an overview and update on the National Electricity Market of Singapore (NEMS) and cover electricity derivatives markets in more depth.

  • Workshop 1: Overview and update on the NEMS conducted by Kenneth Lim, SVP Market Operations & Information Technology, EMC
  • Workshop 2: Electricity derivatives markets conducted by Dr Chiao Yen Shong, Business Development Manager, EMC, with co-presenter Mark Landis, Managing Director, MRL Management Services 

Past events were very well received and last year we welcomed almost 200 participants from Singapore, other countries in Asia Pacific, Europe and the US. Participants included company presidents, CEOs, managing directors and others from the electricity and energy industries, financial institutions, law firms, consultancies, and our National Electricity Market of Singapore (NEMS). We are expecting a similar attendance for this year’s event.
